Gazans frantically try to reconnect with loved ones as internet access returns | World News

Gaza experienced a complete communication blackout on Friday night due to heavy Israeli bombardment. This left residents unable to contact the outside world, emergency services, or even each other. The blackout disrupted aid efforts and medical assistance. However, phone and internet access is gradually being restored. In a voice note sent on Sunday morning, a Sky News producer in Gaza expressed uncertainty about the reason behind the return of connectivity. They suggested it could be due to satellite hacking or international pressure on Israel. The producer described the relief of receiving messages from their family and friends in Gaza City, as they had been unable to check on their well-being for the past couple of nights. The producer’s family is using a school near Shifa Hospital as a shelter, but the heavy bombing with the use of white phosphorous is causing a sense of fear and vulnerability among Gaza residents. They feel like targets and are worried that the war will continue. Additionally, they face daily life struggles such as accessing water, food, and other essential supplies. The producer’s brother, who works as a paramedic, has been difficult to reach since morning. They are concerned for his safety as he works in dangerous conditions, responding to injured individuals. The producer expressed frustration and worry about the lack of communication and the need to constantly check on their brother. The death toll in Gaza continues to rise, with Hamas-run health authorities reporting over 8,000 Palestinians killed. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), on the other hand, state that over 1,400 people have died in Israel. The IDF claims their ground operation is aimed at targeting Hamas infrastructure and accuses Hamas of using medical facilities as cover. They assert that they will abide by international law and make efforts to minimize harm to civilians. The IDF has also denied accusations of using white phosphorous in densely populated areas in Gaza.
