Maine mass shooting: Police suggest suicide note was found during search for suspect | US News

Officials have discovered a message that had a “suicide note-like” tone in their search for the suspect in the recent mass shooting in Maine. Maine’s public safety commissioner, Mike Sauschuck, revealed that the body of suspect Robert Card was found in a trailer near a recycling centre in Lisbon Falls on Friday. Alongside his body, a note containing a phone password and banking details was also discovered. Mr. Sauschuck described the note as addressed to a loved one but not explicitly a suicide note, instead having the tone of someone who did not expect to survive. Mr. Sauschuck also mentioned a possible mental health component as a motive for the attack. Card had never been involuntarily committed for mental health treatment, so this would not have been flagged during background checks for purchasing a gun. Card’s body was found near the Androscoggin River in the Lisbon Falls area where he had been working at a recycling facility. Police had previously searched the recycling center but did not find his body until later. Officials believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two guns were found on his body, and a mobile phone and gun were found in his car.
