It’s unusual to have a season without a clear-cut No. 1 team at this point, but Texas has claimed the top spot in this week’s Athletic 133 rankings. Texas has proven themselves with impressive wins over Alabama, Baylor, and Kansas. Meanwhile, Georgia has had slow starts and lacks a notable win. Texas and Georgia are followed by USC, Florida State, and Ohio State in the top 10. Alabama has made some improvements and is now ranked 11th. Oklahoma continues to dominate but hasn’t faced a challenging opponent yet. Duke nearly beat Notre Dame, only falling one spot to 15th. Other notable moves in the rankings include Oregon State rising ahead of Utah and Ole Miss re-entering the top 25 after their win against LSU. Maryland, Kentucky, and Texas A&M have also made their way into the top 25. The rankings beyond the top 25 include teams like Kansas, Florida, and Louisville. Tulane remains the top Group of 5 team, and Fresno State, James Madison, and Air Force are close behind. Arkansas and Mississippi State drop in the rankings after tough losses, while Troy moves up after a dominant win. Georgia Tech’s loss to Bowling Green makes their placement difficult, and teams like USF, Texas State, Michigan State, and Purdue see movement as well. Baylor’s comeback win against UCF propels them up in the rankings, while San Diego State continues to drop after consecutive losses. Virginia Tech gains ground with a win against Pitt. This week’s rankings also highlight teams like Bowling Green, Stanford, and Virginia, before ending with Arkansas State, Sam Houston, Buffalo, and Nevada.
